Biography

Amdo, Tibet

Lama Jigmé Namgyal was born in 1973 into a nomadic family from Amdo province in Eastern Tibet. When he was 8 years old he entered a monastery where he studied under Lama Torden, a Dzogchen master of great renown. (Dzogchen means Great Perfection the highest teachings within the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism)

Later, Lama Jigmé travelled to Larung Gar where he attended the Dharma University established by the great Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok who died in 2004 and was regarded by many as one of the greatest lamas within Tibet.

At Larung Gar Lama Jigmé studied Tantra and later taught many monks and lay people before he was asked to travel to the west. Since then, he has established two centres in the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Lama Jigmé is a down to earth and approachable teacher who is able to communicate the basic wisdom and compassion which is the essence of our humanity, the realisation of which brings inner peace and outward harmony. His style of teaching is as open and spacious as the land of his birth. The feeling of connectedness that he communicates is of particular value in these troubled times.
